Today we had a few new participants joins us. We decided to do checkmate in one move where the main piece delivering the checkmate was the queen. The students did really well with everyone taking turns to participate. We were able to cover 21 puzzles today! We observed checkmates with a queen and rook, queen and knight, queen and bishop, queen and pawn and just the queen by itself.

While trying to find a checkmate, you need to find out the squares the opponent’s king can currently move and try to block those with your pieces.

We then followed it today with a session on good opening principles to follow. Here was the summary:

  1. Play in the center
  2. Develop your knights and bishops first
  3. Castle your king

Thank you to our participants for their enthusiasm in solving the puzzles today. Thanks to the parents for supporting your children. See you next week!
