Teaching chess in Brazil
In a series of 7 events aimed at fifth-graders, we showed the fun side of chess alongside its benefits. Each class included an explanation of the pawn's movements for beginners, with dynamic examples of thinking ahead about counter movements and stalemate. There was also an introduction to chess clocks. To solidify the knowledge, the kids played a fun minigame called Pawn Race, in which the first to promote wins! They were divided into four teams and played a small tournament against other groups. It was a delightful experience to foster logical thinking, teamwork, time management, and chess!

New Chess Boards arrive at Raise Chess Academy
We’re thrilled to share that new chess boards have reached Raise Chess Academy in Uganda, and the smiles say it all. Why This Matters Chess creates space for focus, resilience, and community. Simple tools like a board and pieces can unlock lessons in planning, patience, and sportsmanship. Having enough boards in the room means everyone gets time over the board and are not just watching.What’s Next We will be running more tournaments to raise funds to support Raise Chess Academy. 64 Squares members win bronze at World School Team Championships!
Three members of the 64 squares team were part of the Harker School team that won bronze medal at the World School Team Championship! The event was held at Episcopal High School, located in the historic city of Alexandria, just outside Washington, D.C. The tournament is a flagship event in the global scholastic chess calendar and brings together hundreds of students representing nearly 50 countries. It was a fun filled and exciting couple of days - there were many close games and the entire team put their best effort to secure a tie for second and getting third place on tiebreaks.
