[PAST EVENT] Chess lesson and Free Play
Today was our first session at the Saratoga Library, and we were happy to see a room full of enthusiastic kids with a love for chess.
In today’s session, we covered some tactical ideas around pins, forks, and skewers, and did some puzzle solving together. We learnt to identify these patterns in the positions that the kids solved together. Try to always be on the lookout for these as you never know when they might appear during a real game.
We then had free play where players played each other with different colors, optionally using a chess clock to keep track of time on both sides. In some games, even though a player was winning, they flagged -meaning they lost because their time ran out.
We would like to thank all our parents and the kids for participating in our session today.
