[PAST EVENT] Chess Lesson and Free Play
Today, we continued our last week’s tactical puzzle theme: “forking” which is the idea of attacking two pieces at the same time.
Always look to see if you can attack two undefended pieces of your opponent at the same time, this way when one piece escapes, you are guaranteed the other piece.
We ended the session with free play where it was great to see castling happen, and pieces being developed. One of the games ended in a stalemate- which is where the opponent’s king cannot move anywhere on the board and it is not in check. The other player had many pieces left on the board but they were restricting the opponent’s king to move to any square. A stalemate is marked as a draw where both players receive a 0.5 point.
Thanks to the parents for encouraging and supporting your children.
